After riding their way to a third state championship in five years last season, the Alter Volleyball team returned to the court in 2007 and got "back in the saddle again" with the hopes of blazing a trail of success and ropin' a few victories along the way. The Knights culminated their 2007 campaign last month with a 13-12 record, their 8th consecutive Sectional title and a runner-up finish in the highly-respected Girls' Greater Cincinnati League. The Alter spiking crew was paced by a trio of seniors in Erin Lammers, Alex Tillar and Kari Vangsness - all of whom provided maturity, stability and consistency on a relatively "young" Alter volleyball roster. In addition to the senior crew, junior returning players Kelsey Buehrle, Monica Lachey and Annalyse Schmitt brought leadership and dominent play onto the Knight court while also building promise for the future. Joining Alter's returning five were first-year varsity letterwinners, juniors Jess Hart, Laney Pieper and Kelly Wolff; sophomore Kristin Ignozzi; and freshmen Jackie Kohls and Kelly Westerkamp - all of whom gained experience at the varsity level and a taste of success out on the floor, anxious to return with seasoning and a quest for a spot at the top in '08.
It was a year of tremendous growth both on and off the court and lots of fun along the way. We'll, of course, miss our three seniors and their families, but are already anxious to bring a more polished game out onto the court in 2008. In celebration of our 2007 season, Alter volleyball players, coaches and parents met earlier this month to reflect on the past year and recognize our individual award winners.
Thanks to all of you who supported our ride down the volleyball trail in '07, we were thrilled to have you saddle up with us and we look forward to seeing you again next fall!
